Thanks, Vito, for writing such an eloquent tribute to one of America's unsung, except by anybody who ever read even a line of his prose, and best writers. I'm welling up remembering phone conversations I had with Buddy about my own work. His analysis was sharp, funny and decent. That's the thing I will always appreciate most about his mentorship, his basic decency. And then there's the humor. We were talking about stories around Thanksgiving, 2008, and eventually he got around to asking me what my plans were for the holiday. I was a little nervous because we were hosting my fiance's family, so I'm meeting my future mother-in-law for the first time and such. Buddy tells me to remember not to drink too much so as not to "fuck the whole thing up." I told him I could do that without drinking, and he assured me I would not. And you know, it made a difference. Seems like everything he ever said to me made a difference on some level or another. I'm confident that Buddy will continue to watch the world with that "magic eye" of his, and I'd like to think that it will light on me occasionally (for inspiration).

Vito, this is an awesome tribute. I'm so happy to see so many of them springing up. I feel the same way. The world needs to know about Buddy.

Not bad, Patrick, but I feel the story needs further editing. You need to give the reader more space. The story gets too self conscious parts.

= put the blue monkey in my 'right' pocket, >>> Why do we need to know it was the right pocket?

= I held on to the door handle to keep from sliding across the 'black vinyl' seat. >>> the 'black vinyl' killed this sentence

Hope this helps.
